on the hunt!

House hunt that is...

we have been inside 4 houses, driven by another possible 5.

first house is just strides from the university, literally, walk out the door, down 3 houses and then around the corner and down that street is the university.  just on the other side of the university is the elementary school.  Awesomeness... AND brand new carpet.  buuuuuut, living room is smaller, which is ok, but not even our couch will fit :( bedrooms are a decent size and lots of closets... well enough anyways.  no storage or bath tub in master bath but there is a master shower :) kitchen will totally do, but we're unsure of the dishwasher and refrigerator... dinosaurs they are.  this one isn't technically even on the market yet, but we got to sneak a peak bcs of our realtor friend here :) so we don't know price, deposit, or if pets are allowed, so it's a contender but not a top pick.

2nd house we looked at was... uhm, beer stained and crazy dirty with cat smell.  big enough, but no where to put a dining table... :(  and backyard was super sloped (something we've learned we don't feel like dealing with ;)  so out of the race goes this house.

3rd one we went into was built in the 1920's.  SOOOO much charm and HUGE GINORMOUS rooms! hardwood in the den and the huge hallway that goes right down the middle of the house.  weird kitchen layout though, unnaccessable cabinets and it comes with a stackable washer dryer... which for our family of 6??? hmmmm not sure how well that would work, and it would be harder to have the kids help with laundry.  plus, well, a carpeted dining room? like shag carpet??? 1 full bath that i'm not sure i (or even my super clean obsessed friends) could get clean enough for my standards.  but just across the busy highway to the university and elementary school, probably the closest to BOTH schools out of all of them, but right on main street, next to town hall, no fence on a busy road... but so charming! oh and yes, brad's major concern? the electrical...uhm, can we say FIRE!?!?! so that's one i can't talk brad past.

we drove by 2 others on the same street just under 2 miles from the university. One of those we will not actually get to see, as the current tenants are going to be evicted. The home belongs to a friend of the realtor, and he would be excited if we were to rent it (it seems Wingate faculty are coveted renters in the area). That one seems to be the biggest, 2 stories large, renovated last year, and it has a garage (which most homes here seem to be lacking). The next house, across the street and a few houses down, is a rent by owner and is right in our price range. It looks big and nice from the outside, it is  fenced in, but I had to talk the owner into letting  Saucisse be an indoor dog with this house. We are just waiting on her to call us back so that we can see the inside.

Another house that we looked at is the absolutely most perfect house but they want an 18 month lease...so I don't really even want to talk about that one... it's still too painful.

The last house that we drove by last night belongs to the same woman who owns the 1920's house. But it is about 6 miles from the University and it is at the top of our budget. It is also not in walking distance to anything and in a different elementary school area than the one we want our kids to go to. (Also the neighbor is the landlord).

Sorry there are no pictures. I think we left the camera in the car and I'll try to post those later.

It sounds very promising! Once the owner sees Saucisse, there shouldn't be any concern--children are messier than that dog. I wonder if you sat down and met the lady with the 18-month lease if she'd change her mind. Perhaps not, but seeing as you are the coveted renters in town...
